"Without pictures we are only left with words and they're not always enough." (Frank Hurley, photographer on board the Endurance)
I went to the National Geographic 50 Greatest Photographs recently. I settled on two favorites. One was taken in Siberia - freezing cold temperatures - of a woman herding a group of reindeer. Due to politics and travel issues, it took photographer Dean Conger eight years to make this photo; and when the opportunity came it lasted for moments. The second photo was a family in Mali; the family and photographer Joanna B. Pinneo had taken a nap and the Pinneo awoke just in time to see the family still sleeping on the dirt floor, bathed in golden sunshine.
I photograph every day. Most of these images are thrown away; but every shot trains my eye and expands my boldness. Making photos every day encourages future photo projects and shortens my reaction time when that compelling scene in impeccable light presents itself.
Many thanks to family, friends, critics, and clients.
Thank you for considering these images.
